Wrapping up February and entering March…Lake Okeechobee is fishing very good with fish being caught in a variety of ways! The lake is currently at 12.85 and looks to stay that way for at least a little while longer. Clean water has been easy to find on all ends on the Lake…although for me, the dirtier water has been the ticket. Water that is “to clean” can sometimes make it difficult to get bit, unless you are fishing in super skinny water depths.
If you are fishing skinny, buzzing a swimbait or swimming a worm on the surface has been very effective. As you start to make your way out, swimming a Speed Worm/Burner Worm just above the eel grass has been producing some big fish. If that is a little to slow for you, a Chatterbait is always a good alternate, try a green pumpkin or black and blue color.
With the water warming up all week, I have also been finding some nice fish on the main lake grasses. Flipping a jig or Beaver style bait in the round reeds is a fun way to catch them, and/or fishing a Rattle Trap in the cuts or just around the edge will both produce bites!
